Excerpt:

He’d been bored.
It seemed like a shitty reason to commit suicide, but it was the blatant truth. Four hundred years he’d been alive, and he’d seen pirates, wars, technology, fires. Nothing excited him anymore.
Not feeding. Not starving. Not dancing.
Music. Television. Knitting. Turning into a wolf or a bat.
Nothing.
He’d spent a few weeks working in an Italian restaurant, making garlic bread to see if the constant rash was irritating enough to be interesting, but no. Not really.
Lukas grabbed a pen and paper, started scribbling.
Dear Master,

Enclosed find the deeds to my land, my banking accounts, etc. I leave no minions or followers or even base familiars. You have, always, my respect and my apologies for so many decades with bad blood between us. I wish you a luscious eternity.

Peace,

Lukas
He sealed the envelope with all of the information and handed it to Maurice, along with a hefty pile of bills. “Please deliver this.”
Three hundred years they’d lived within five miles of one another. Two hundred years since they had touched, since he’d enjoyed his creator’s attention.
They were a stubborn species. Stubborn and constantly seeking their lost humanity.
“Will there be anything else, sir?”
Lukas shook his head. “No. You may go.”
He spent the night packing the last of his things and then headed to the roof, locking the trapdoor behind him.
The sun was coming.

This would not be boring.
